All-time favorite line from the movie: Cato's gibberish "You were gonna win anyway, right? It was never gonna be me!" Most powerful scene from the movie.
The Hunger Games is a 2012 film based on the book of the same name by Suzanne Collins, and it's just as good as the novel was- a heartbreaking, emotional, passionate romp of action, romance, and passion, all rolled up into 2 and a half hours.
I think the thing I liked the most about the film was its loyalty to the book- I can only count on my hand the number of times I realized a scene that wasn't in the book, or a scene that was changed for the movie, and when scenes were changed or removed, it was done so beautifully that you almost didn't notice it.
When I heard they were making a Hunger Games movie, I instantly thought- "They had better pick a good Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch." I don't particularly care for Gale after reading Mockingjay, even though in the first two books I was Team Gale. At the moment, all I wanted was those three characters- Hollywood has a tendency to mess up in the transition from book to film.
I literally went ballistic when I found out Jennifer Lawrence was playing Katniss. That has got to be the best character choice ever, besides Robert Pattinson for Edward in Twilight. I'd seen her in Winter's Bone, so I knew she was an excellent actress, and it was confirmed when I saw the movie. Josh Hutcherson wasn't exactly who I expected for Peeta- I ranted for about three hours about that- but when I saw the movie his performance blew me away, and he was just so hot that I fangirled for about two weeks after seeing the movie. I just had to see it again- three more times. I pictured Haymitch as looking different as well, but Woody Harrelson blew me away as well.
On them writing Madge out of the movie- I think it was because she's not really that big of a character, outside of her giving Katniss the pin we barely know her. I was upset by the decision, but I wasn't totally devastated like some fans. Madge isn't that big of a deal, guys. Then on the racist tweets- seriously, chill, guys, because Rue, Thresh, and Cinna are all black in the books. It's not that serious. And even if they weren't I'd be perfectly fine.
All together, The Hunger Games was an amazing film from an amazing book and I'm glad to have seen it.
